Bravo Susan. I often marveled at the rubes in the three card game when I lived in NYC. Now I suppose they are all Trump voters.

Oh, I love you. Seriously. As not only a non-New York City resident, but an improbable amalgam of the California Bay Area, the West Virginia exurbs of Washington, DC, Baltimore, the Research Triangle of NC and now Pittsburgh, PA, I have never understood the NYC lifestyle, values or, as you say, apparently bottomless venality as well as self-congratulatory dome within which New York lives and breathes. When I subscribed to the NYT in print, the full page ads for Sachs, Rolex and Tiffany and the social columns featuring idiot dolls in designer duds that might as well have featured 4 and 5 zero price tags dangling under the armpits used to make me scratch my head while losing my lunch. I mean, OMG, venality hardly begins to touch all that. Bonfires upon bonfires of vanity.

Those and many other subcultures of the rich and infamous explain how a mutant like Trump rose to the pinnacle of power upon the dead and mutilated souls of his victims. If it weren't for the great universities and other research institutions, and a few members of the arts and lit community, I'd say it would be great if global warming were to sink the whole of Manhattan Island.
