Journalist Marc Cooper has lived through at least two coup d’stats. As a young man he worked as a translator for Chilean president Salvador Allende, the first democratically elected socialist president. Allende was murdered in a CIA-backed coup, but in recent years Chile has emerged as a vibrant democracy.
Cooper spoke on a Journal of the Plague Years panel at the Village Well bookstore in Culver City. Other panelists included New York Times opinion writer Jean Guerrero, author of Hatemonger, a biography of Stephen Miller; Los Angeles Times environmental writer Sammy Roth; neuroscientist and UCLA disinformation research Zahra Aghajan; Field Team 6 founder Jason Berlin, and Journal editor Susan Zakin.
The bookstore pithily titled the panel “Fight or Flight.” We thought of it as “WTF is Happening and What Can We Do?”
Stay tuned. The entire panel and transcript will be released Saturday March 30.
For the first week it will be available only to paid subscribers. We keep our subscription rate low: $35. That introductory rate will only last for another month or so.
